About Carmen
As an Integrative Somatic Therapist I support my clients' innate body-mind wisdom and resilience to emerge and heal. I work with clients who are dealing with toxic stress and trauma symptoms and those seeking general body-mind support or embodied shifts along their life path. I use Somatic Experiencing®, a bottom-up approach to healing, that listens and responds to the body story. I integrate movement, touch, and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, in conjunction with somatic parts work (IFS), to help resolve unprocessed stress and trauma, restore nervous system regulation, and bring about insight and transformation. I also offer guidance around lifestyle and nutrition as a way to further holistically support the body-mind.
I have completed a three-year professional Somatic Experiencing® training at Somatic Experiencing International®, a 500-hour Yoga Therapy training program, and am a certified Functional Health and Wellness Coach with the Kresser Institute. I am currently serving as an assistant at Somatic Experiencing® trainings, am an ongoing student of Peter Levine's at the Ergos Institute, and current student of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. I draw on over two decades of yoga and mindfulness practices, including Zen Buddhism where I received my precepts in 2009, Vipassana meditation, and conscious dance, and over a decade of yoga and mindfulness teaching when supporting clients’ embodied wellness journeys.
I have served on the Board of Directors of Somatic Experiencing International® since 2021, and I previously served on the Board of the Reciprocity Foundation from 2011 - 2021. Both organizations are dedicated to supporting trauma resolution and resiliency. I practiced law for over 16 years, having attended law school on a full scholarship, and I founded and ran several law practices in New York and California. During this time I navigated my own journey with toxic stress and anxiety.
I am currently teaching in-person group hatha yoga classes where I weave my knowledge of somatic regulation into my teaching. I also regularly facilitate group somatic workshops and retreats.
I am a mother of two, an eco-enthusiast, and am passionate about equitable and sustainable nutrition and lifestyle. I have lived in four countries, and am fluent in Spanish.
